Abstract: The use of green roofs is being promoted and likely to increase, since they have the potential of providing suitable environment for flower-visiting insects in urban area. Human population density is high and limited in green spaces at ground level in Taipei city; green roofs are popular with the residents in a variety of benefits. We confirmed the carefully designed green roof had the potential value for flower-visiting insect populations. The suitability index curve is a valuable tool to describe the relationship between flower-visiting insects and greening variable and used to estimate the optimal value of greening variables for attract more flower-visiting insects on a limited area of green roof. A geometric mean approach of habitat suitability index model of green roof was found, which was used to assess green roof quality for flower-visiting insects by four greening variables. These research findings involve greening approaches and planning strategies, and could help effectively utilize the limited area of green roof to attract more flower-visiting insects in urban area.

Abstract: The present study focuses on transforming leftover spaces and deserted streets into pocket parks, in order to enhance the quality of life in distressed neighborhoods. The aim of the study is to design a pocket park that meets the users’ needs and behaviors. The first step is to identify key design parameters for designing a successful pocket park, which would provide a space for recreation, socialization in addition to adding greenery to the condensed neighborhood. A space is selected in a high-density district, In Cairo City. The research methods included a survey of the physical environment, observation and a questionnaire. The local residents are asked to assess the current problems in the space, and express their priorities. Moreover, the participants suggested the design components of the new park and what types of activities should the park host. The findings show that safety, lighting, and maintenance are the main priorities for the nearby residents. Furthermore, the society’s social and cultural norms have a profound impact on the final product.

Abstract: This study aims to show how to obtain the curvature of the ellipsoid depending on azimuth angle. The curvature topic is quite popular at an interdisciplinary level. It can be to the friends of geometry, geodesy, satellite orbits in space, in studying all sorts of elliptical motions (e.g., planetary motions), curvature of surfaces and concerning eye-related radio-therapy treatment, for example the anterior surface of the cornea is often represented as ellipsoidal in form. On the calculation of the curvature, there is a famous Euler formula for rotating ellipsoid that everyone knows. Let θ be the angle, in the tangent plane, measured clockwise from the direction of minimum curvature κ1. Then the normal curvature κn (θ) in direction θ is given by κn (θ) = κ1 cos2θ + κ2 sin2θ = κ1 + (κ2 - κ1) cos2θ I wonder how can a formula for a triaxial ellipsoid? So we started to work. And we finally found the formula for the triaxial ellipsoid.

Abstract: The paper focuses on In-Migration and Type of Accommodation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria. A total of 491 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. Data collected were processed using Epi/Info computer software for data entry and SPSS computer software for data analysis. Frequency distributions tables were used for descriptive statistical analysis. The study reveals that 87.2 percent of the respondent migrates to the FCT for perceived economic opportunities and 34.0 percent of the respondent secure accommodation with their relatives on first arrival to the FCT. Also, 53.6 percent of respondent lived in unfenced compound and 39.1 percent have an average of 5-7 persons per-room. While 50.9 percent of the respondents live in rented apartments in the FCT. It is important to note that the FCT being the administrative headquarter of Nigeria will continue to attract more migrate. Therefore, to avoid impeding accommodation crises, the private and public developers should intensify effort in the provision of quality housing.
